Just a funny note in college I remember a group called "Campus Crusade for Cthulhu", a take of "Campus Crusade for Christ. |

The one god that escapes in Hellboy bears a passing resembalance to Cthulhu, I'll admit. Cthulhu, however, probably would not go down as easily.
Interestingly, Des Vremii Mysteries, the book from which Rasputin summons the Seven Gods of Chaos, can be found in many of Lovecraft's stories, shelved with the likes of the Necronomicon.
However, Cthulhu doesn't really go in for the physical possession or even that 'gateway' effect that occured when Rasputin died; he likes to corrupt people's minds.
Hope that helps, and that you don't start in surprise at my unhealthy amount of Lovecraftian lore. :D |

but my take on HPL's old ones, they really could care less about us, or acting in any evil way. we are just sheep to be eaten and used. or ants that bother them every so often. |

Even things like Buffy and Angel use quite a lot of the ideas that Lovecraft came up with. Also expect to find a lot of Lovecraftian ideas and imagery ruined and destroyed in the upcoming remake of "The Wicker Man". Yes, you read that right. :(
I haven't read any Hellboy, but I thought the movie was top-notch entertainment. |
